BALDR FILM (2012) is the Amsterdam-based production company of Frank Hoeve and Katja Draaijer. They focus on developing and (co-)producing challenging, author-driven features and documentaries of a select number of filmmakers with a distinctive personal signature. BALDR Film offers a lot of support in matters of content, focussing not only on urgent content but also on form and originality. In this they don’t fear to take risks, always aiming for a high artistic value, visually intriguing style and an international audience.

BALDR Film produced the well-acclaimed films Sevilla by Bram Schouw (2012, Dutch Academy Award), Those Who Feel The Fire Burning by Morgan Knibbe (2014, Dutch Academy Award for Best Feature Length Documentary, IDFA Nomination Best Feature Documentary),  Etgar Keret: Based on a True Story by Stephane Kaas (2017, International Emmy Award, Prix Italia) and Brothers by Bram Schouw (2017, Premiers Plans d’Angers, Hollywood Film Festival Silver Screen Prize).

In 2019, the Danish/Dutch co-production Western Arabs by Omar Shargawi and the Belgium/Dutch co-production By the Name of Tania by Mary Jiménez and Bénédicte Liénard premiered at Berlinale 2019., and the Brazilian/Dutch/French co-production Sick, Sick, Sick by Alice Furtado premiered at Cannes Directors Fortnight.

At the moment, BALDR Film has several films in development and (post-)production: the Dutch/ Belgian co-production Club Heaven by Jona Honer, the Dutch/Belgian co- production Paradise in the Desert by Ike Bertels and the Dutch/Danish/German co- production Mitra by Kaweh Modiri (Winner Eurimages Development Co-production Award). In January 2020 the feature film Gold by Rogier Hesp will have its World Premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and will be released in Dutch cinemas from March 26.

Katja Draaijer Producer

Katja Draaijer obtained her doctorate at the University of Amsterdam in Cultural Studies & Film and Television Studies. She worked for 12 years at IJswater Films as Head of Development and Producer for fiction projects and documentaries.

Since 2010, she has been a freelance script editor for fiction projects and a member of the advice committee for feature films of the Netherlands Film Fund. She attended the ARISTA Story Editors Workshop, MEDIA Documentary Campus and the Franz Rodenkirchen Binger Story Editor Workshop. Presently she is chairman of the board of the Documentary Producers Netherlands.

Frank Hoeve Producer

Frank Hoeve graduated from the Haarlem Business School with a Bachelor of Economics. In 2004, he attended a course in Film Studies at the University of Barcelona. He has produced at IJswater Films for 6 years and 1 year at Dutch Mountain Movies/Talent United.

In addition to his producers work, he was the chairman for the Association of New Film and Television Makers (NFTVM) and until recently board member of the Go Short International Film Festival. In 2011 he participated in the Ateliers du Cinema (ACE) that provides training and a network for European producers. He also attended the Story Editing Workshop by Franz Rodenkirchen at the Binger Filmlab and is an EAVE alumni. He has been selected as Producer on the Move during the Cannes Film Festival 2018.

Nikki Habraken Assistant Producer

Nikki Habraken graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 2016, where she acquired a Master degree in Television Studies. She did a career orientated specialisation, focussing on the research and development of creative documentaries. During her studies she did several internships at documentary production companies, amongst others Interakt and HALAL Docs.  

Nikki wrote her master thesis about the possibilities for impact production in the changing Dutch media landscape, whereafter she volunteered for the Events and Advice department at Movies that Matter. Since October 2017 she has been working as an assistant producer at BALDR Film.
