THE SMELL OF APPLES selected for Platform at TIFF

The Smell of Apples by John Trengove will have its World Premiere in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Based on the novel by Mark Behr tells the story during the white utopia of 1970’s apartheid South Africa, when a young boy’s summer holiday becomes a test of his love for his father.

The Platform section is the only competitive section at TIFF and was created to spotlight directorial voices and this year’s 12-film selection is an imaginative reflection of new auteur cinema.
For the first time this year, under new Academy Award rules, any non-English-language film that wins the Platform Award is immediately eligible for the best international feature Oscar.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is one of the most prestigious and largest publicly attended film festivals in the world. Founded in 1976, the festival takes place mid September.

The Smell of Apples is written and directed by John Trengove (The Wound, Manodrome) and produced by Eric Abraham, Jack Sidey, Cait Pansegrouw, Frank Hoeve and Giancarlo Nasi with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund.
