SOUNDTRACK TO A COUP D’ETAT nominated for an Oscar® – Best Documentary Feature
Belgian filmmaker Johan Grimonprez’s Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat has been nominated for an Oscar® in the Best Documentary Feature category, the Academy announced on Thursday.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat (2024) is the story of how the US and Belgium conspired to assassinate Patrice Lumumba, one of Africa’s most popular political leaders of the 1960s. The documentary interweaves the unfolding of the assassination plot with America’s use of jazz as soft power across the African continent.
The documentary was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary Feature category on Thursday. The other nominees in this category are ‘Black Box Diaries’, ‘No Other Land’, ‘Porcelain War’ and ‘Sugarcane’.
The official ceremony will be held on March 2.
