Dawood Hilmandi’s feature debut PAIKAR selected for IDFA

Dawood Hilmandi’s feature debut documentary Paikar was selected for this year’s IDFA line-up. The film is featured in the Luminous section and is competing for the Best First Feature Award, the Best Dutch Film Award and the FIPRESCI Award.

Paikar is a personal portrait of director Dawood Hilmandi’s quest for beloning. Years after he ran away from home as a boy to find freedom in the ‘West’, the Afghan-Dutch filmmaker goes back to challenge himself and his authoritarian father, and questions him about the notion of freedom.

The premiere is planned for the 15th of November in Pathé Tuschinski. Watch the official IDFA press conference here.

The film is a BALDR Film production in co-production with EOdocs and supported by the Netherlands Filmfund, The Netherlands Film Production Incentive and NPO-Fund.
